Sant'Angelo in Vado lies in the northern part of the Marches. The history on this ancient town, which is 360 m above the sea level, stretches back to 1000 B.C. (late Bronz Age). This make Saint Angelo in Vado even older than Rome. Excavations around the town bear whitness to this fact. Many traditions are central to Saint Angelo. The annual Truffle Festival marks the high point of region calendar. Here, in addition to the black truffle, one can also sample the delicious and valuable white truffle.

Nearby sights

Only 25 km from Sant Angelo in Vado you find Urbino, which is one of Le Marches absolute crown jewels. The town is not only one of Italy’s best preserved and most beautiful hill towns, but is also a town of great historic and cultural importance. During the 12th century Federico di Montefeltro hired some of the greatest renaissance artists and architects to decorate his palace and other parts of the town. The ducal palace and the birth house of the later so famous painter Raphael is just a few of the interesting Urbino-sights worth mentioning.

Further to the north you will find San Leo – the romantic and cosy village with the impressive fortress, which was used for military purposes as late as during the second world war.
